"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;"
There are different meanings to the word grace as we can see in the above passage we are saved by grace through faith, it is favour from God and a gift from God. We cannot save ourselves by works of the law or by our own power. God has shown favour to those who have repented and have true faith.
Grace can also mean kindness and goodwill and it can also mean the divine influence from God upon us, and scripture tells us this very clearly in Titus 2:11-15.
"11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. 15 These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you."
Grace teaches us and empowers us to live a righteous life this is acceptable in the sight of God and this is something that is barely spoken about today by preachers and theologians. To many the Christian life is a positional life, where we are positionally holy or righteous, but unholy or unrighteous in practice, which is totally unbiblical and will lead to many going to the lake of fire.
"7 Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous;8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil."(1 John 3).
Notice, he that does righteousness is righteous even as He(Jesus) is righteous. This is not impossible to do because we have the grace of God, the Holy Spirit in us, and the wonderful leading of God in all things.
God bless.
